I use a keyring to hold together laminated name tags of each child. Each time their is a task to do the child 'on top' does that task. The card is then flipped over for the next task. Each student has a turn and they get to do different jobs, learning lots of different responsibilities, from recyclig to taking a message to the office.
Hope this helps someone.

After what seems like years of waiting I've finally had an interactive whiteboard installed in my class room. It is a Hitachi running Starboard. My class was so excited and were entertained just writing their names using the different colours. We also tried out www.Starfall.com and they quickly got the hang of it. Any great ideas for using it would be gratefully received!

Hi I am a teacher at Willunga Primary School in South Australia.
As part of our schools "Digital Revolution" we have been encouraged to make class websites.
I have signed consent from all parents to use their child's photos on the web and ensure safety by not having individual names next to photos or using surnames.
I take photos and snippets of video during the week and work with the students who tell me what to write. Parents love being able to keep up with the daily happenings of the class.…

Hey guys! My name is Michelle and I’m an intern at a company called ePals. We offer a great free program called In2Books that I thought you might be interested in hearing about. In2Books is a free e-mentoring literacy program for 3-5th graders in Title 1 schools (where at least 40% of the children in the school are from low-income families.) Each student chooses five books from five different genres which are carefully selected by a team of children’s literature experts. The students are then ea…

Hi everyone
Have a look at this site (Oxford University Press). It has sightwords, bingo cards, memory snap games for the most common 100 words taken from Australian student's writing.
I haven't been able to read the research yet, so I can't comment on its validity BUT the resources put with it are timesaving. And it is free!!!!!
It is aimed at Australian and NZ, but the generic nature of the games should make it useful in the US.

Oh, I've been neglectful.
I have been reading, though. The
Reading Essentials book has completely reinforced everything I've been doing, which, of course, is based on everything I've been
reading for the previous couple of years.
Here are three favorite quotes from the book that I've taken the time to write in my journal - so far:
"Continually ask yourself when planning work for students,
How is this activity helping my students becoome more independent as readers, writers and…

I got this book today at the bookstore. Barnes & Noble is my favorite place to be. Of course it's a bit more relaxing when Benjy isn't running up to me to see if he can buy a book about Star Wars, even though he already has one at home. Or Camden isn't barging into me to ask if I'll buy him a stuffed elephant and a book to go with it. Still, I found this book that I'd been hearing some great chatter about online and pi…
