Hi all,

I am about to start a term block (maternity leave) position in Kinder (very excited!) they use Jolly Phonics, where much of my previous experience (and what my boys do at school) is with THRASS. Just wondering if anyone is aware of any great downloadable Jolly Phonics resources they'd be happy to share!

Not downloadable as far as I know. Like THRASS, it's one of those programs where they want your money and won't let you do anything. From what I can gather, most Jolly Phonics stuff you have to buy from education shops, though every now and then I do see it creeping into the mainstream bookshops. I'm assuming you are not keen to buy any, but if you feel the need, maybe check Ebay. Jolly Phonics is big in the UK and there are heaps of cheap resources over there so some of those might be on ebay.

Hopefully someone else might use Jolly Phonics on here and have some ideas for what they use. It may also be worth a look or an ask on the Kindergarten Teachers Club on ning too. It's a fairly small group still, but you never know what's around!

Oh, actually, no, I don't mind buying it... I just have a short space of time to get it! lol! And there is only one real education shop 'local' to me (about 25mins away)... who have a good range, but not a great range if you know what I mean. Oh well. There is a 'handbook' in the classroom, and also obviously also other teachers and resources at the school... I just kind of like to feel prepared with my "own stuff' lol! I'm going to have to learn to use the resources at the school(s) I am at! lol!

The handbook is probably the most useful JP tool because it gives you a visual and hand actions for the sounds plus a few ideas but you need lots more oral and auditory activities than it will ever provide. If you teach in NSW this latest publication from curriculum support is excellent BUT it's only accessible via the DET intranet , http://www.curriculumsupport.education.nsw.gov.au/policies/literacy...
I would think your experience with Thrass would be invaluable just make it fit the program.

Thanks Louise, I actually found http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ have heaps of stuff, and they deliver world wide for free. If I can get my head around the exchange rate properly... it doesn't seem too bad!

Also people on this site: http://www.tes.co.uk/resourcehub.aspx have a lot of ideas, as well teacher made resources for Jolly Phonics (if you search the forum and the resources area)... so I've now gotten a few ideas, which is good.

Thanks for letting me know the handbook is a good starting point. I'm starting to worry! lol!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Jen :)
